Allow New Zealand’s spectacular landscapes to influence your space.

During this time of social distancing, it seems many of us have gained a deeper understanding of the importance of having a connection with nature. Perhaps it’s an ‘awakening of the senses’ as the world has been forced to pause momentarily and take in its surroundings.

As New Zealanders, we’re blessed with an array of stunning landscapes from which we can draw inspiration; so when searching for colour schemes to adorn our living spaces, it seems only natural that we should utilise what’s in front of us. Sea shells, tussock, schist and mountain hues comprise a snapshot of the picturesque views we so enjoy; let’s welcome this beauty into our homes to reflect the serenity found in our own backyard.

Like ripples across water and wind-carved sand dunes, Florio velvet from Harlequin brings a subtle, organic texture in a range of beautiful hues.

Many New Zealanders have traditionally felt averse to the ‘purple’ spectrum, but Angelique Brown of Malcolm Fabrics sees beauty in the vibrant hue “I’ve always been intrigued by the beautiful, moody, dark mauve that is cast by the light bouncing off the Remarkable’s. Combined with the colours of the surrounding tussocks and schist, this colour palette can add warmth to the unique interiors of the region.” Angelique notes that for many, even the word Purple conjures up images of Woodstock and folks twirling around in crushed velvet attire, “If we change the association we have with certain colours, perhaps we can view them in a different light.”
